When Deanne’s ticket came up lucky in Prize Home Draw 511, notifying her of the win proved to be difficult. She’d been a yourtown myplace member for nearly 20 years and the only phone number on her file was her home landline.
“I noticed that the phone rang quite a bit that day and it even rang quite late at night. But I never answer my landline because it’s always marketing calls.
“The next day I opened my work email and there was a message from the front office that they’d fielded a call from Tracey Gillinder, saying she’s got some good news for you.
“I called her back, but I still took a little bit of convincing that it was true.”
It wasn’t until Deanne watched the live draw on the yourtown Prize Homes Facebook page that she truly believed she had won.
Deanne has been connected to yourtown for as long as she can remember. As a child, her parents bought Prize Home tickets, and she even remembers looking through all the brochures.
Then later in life, Deanne constantly referred students to Kids Helpline when they were struggling.
As a long term myplace member, Deanne treated her tickets like a donation and while she had a little bit of hope that she might win some day, she was just glad her money was supporting services like Kids Helpline.
“It was my way of supporting a charity.”
Being a teacher, she’s seen first-hand the wellbeing issues that young people face – and has always known all about the importance of them having someone at the end of the line to answer the call.
After her big win, Deanne and her dogs moved from her home in NSW to her beautiful Broadbeach Waters Prize Home on the Gold Coast.
Winning a Prize Home gave her the financial freedom to take an entire year off work to enjoy her home while she figured out what she wanted to do next.
As Jo Kerr, our Fundraising Operations Manager, says, “It’s a great problem to have!”
