How all the small things make a big difference

Nothing says Christmastime like another jaw-dropping Prize Home styled by Darren Palmer. It’s easy to admire the sparkling pool and the vaulted ceiling, but what about some of the other features?

We’ve brought our expert interior designer in to explore our five favourite features of this Christmas Prize Home that you may have missed.

1. carpathian marble benchtops

When Darren Palmer first saw the Christmas Prize Home he knew the beautiful kitchen had potential, with its gorgeous chocolate cabinetry, but found that the benchtop just didn’t do it justice.

To elevate the space, Darren chose this exquisite Carpathian marble bench, generously donated by CDK Stone, for its dynamic hues and intricate textures.

“The best thing about working with CDK Stone is I know that their range is comprehensive, their staff are super helpful. They know how to understand and interpret a brief that I’ve given them, in terms of what I’m trying to achieve from a colour and material palette.”

2. your personal wellness centre

From the cedar hot tub with a dedicated drinks table to a fully equipped sauna, this is a space where you can truly unwind. If you’re into hot and cold hydrotherapy, there’s even an ice bath complete with a chiller for the full experience.

SproutWell, who supplied and installed the whole wellness centre, use A-Grade Canadian cedar as it’s extremely durable, requires little maintenance and has that irresistible and aromatic smell of cedar.

3. thrifted treasures and vintage finds

Darren Palmer’s signature style is one of classic elegance and modernity, but he’s also made room for some charming, thrifted items in this year’s Prize Home.

The vintage tennis racquets in the pool house add some history and character to the space, while the thrifted children’s encyclopedias in the study bring a sense of nostalgia.

These sustainable choices serve as a reminder that luxury doesn’t always have to mean brand-new.

4. fully custom artwork

This year, Darren collaborated with our friends over at Urban Road to create custom artwork to turn this house into a home.

These custom pieces complement the home’s colour palette and style, while also taking you on a visual journey as you move from room to room.

5. chess-inspired barstools

Reminiscent of chess pieces, these barstools add a whimsical touch to the kitchen and complement the Carpathian marble benchtops.

These solid wood barstools are both a place to sit and a conversation starter and are testament to Darren’s ability to mix high-end design with engaging elements.
